it's beyond a joke that the 10pts out of a wildcard spot Habs even have the opportunity to knock the 5th seed by a mile Penguins from contending for the Cup. beyond ridiculous.

2-3 years ago....maybe a concern because Price could steal a series. But, Price is average now...on a good night...so, this amounts to no more than a tune-up for a Pens run. Pens may even lose a game by not taking Habs seriously enough, but in the end, they win easily either 3-0 or 3-1 and go to the Round of 16.

Yawn. A playoff team vs a clear non-playoff team is not must see TV

Everyone is making this match up more than it actually is. Just because of Carey Price, Come on man. I’d be putting my money on Chicago upsetting Edmonton b4 the Habs upsetting Pitt. Furthermore with all the 24 teams starting at the same time after a 3 or 4 month layoff all teams are in the same boat. It’s just like the start of a new season. Some teams are slow starters while some catch fire out of the gate.

Well the haters can ignore, but the hockey fans can appreciate, whether the Habs and hockey fans like it or not, the Habs are in this strange playoff.

Given it is 5 game series, it is very probable the Pens will win. But as far as I know, the games are played on a sheet of ice, not a sheet of paper.

The Pens have a lot of fire power, but they weren't exactly at the top of the power rankings all season long. As a habs fan, I hope the Pens feel VERY confident. If the habs were to beat the Pens, we habs fans would be surprised, but I for one wouldn't need a defibulator to wake me out of a shocked state.

The haters (the ones that haven't ignored my post) though will be saying "how dare they let a team that finished 15 points behind the Pens go to the playoffs....Oh the irony.

Price scares me a little but I like the Pens' chances against any team. They should beat the Habs and if they don't then they have nowhere to look but in the mirror. Montreal was out of the original playoff picture for a reason.

My prediction: Pens win game 1 in in Pitt, lose game 2 in Montreal in OT, dominate and win game 3 in Pitt, take series 2-1. The Montreal media makes a huge deal out of some little insignificant thing Crosby does (or doesn't fo) to try and cause a controversy. Pens fans panic after game 2 loss and overreact. Drouin doesn't score in the series much and takes a ton of heat.

Did you watch their 2010 run?

That was incredible, you're a Flyers fan and they eventually beat the Habs out but that run from the Habs perspective where Halak was a wall and they upset Pittsburgh and Washington in game 7s as the 8th seed was something else

Be it you are a Habs fan and you have EVERY right to be excited about it, you cannot ignore the gift the NHL gave you all and how crap it is. You have to know that if the Habs were locked in and had to participate in a play in round that you would feel the same as we do.

That said, that Halak series was dreadful and what scares me most. In a 5 gam series a goalie getting hot changes everything.

The Habs haven’t seen a healthy Pens squad this season, while it is far from a lock, if the Pens lose it is on them.

Most Habs fans don't see it as a gift, most Habs fans wanted the highest draft pick possible. This "gift" is more like a curse from a rebuilding perspective.

I don't like this. Remember in 2010 when the Habs beat the Pens in 7. The puck was in the Habs zone 70% of the time but Fleury was below average and Halak made like 50 saves a game. We lost the 3rd period of game 7 1-0, and the shots were like 22-1 Pens.

In all seriousness I think this first round is as even as you can get all-around. These guys haven't played in months. Sounds like a pre-emptive excuse, but it's not. When the season starts there are plenty of mediocre teams that come out strong and fizzle after the first 1/3rd and plenty of good teams that take a while get going.

All things being equal, the Habs are not a bad team and have the exact type of goalie that can steal a series. Also to your point, the Pens have walked in to games overconfident only to blow it against teams they should beat. It's something I've seen follow them for a long time.

* Nate Thompson had a big game for the Habs...he was of course traded to the Flyers at the deadline.

Just had to get this in there. As a Flyers fan, you doing things like this is a bit embarassing.

In Eks defense Uncle Nate was a big part of the locker room, he was Claude's key faceoff guy and well liked in the room. Trading him at the deadline is a huge blow to the Habs up the middle when they're already thin going up against the likes of Sid and Malkin
